I'm going to come to the defense of the Winterfell scenes. The Arya we are shown is clearly a much darker person than we see in season 1. She's also not the smartest person around, and would as a result of these be more susceptible to manipulation from someone like Littlefinger. Littlefinger needs to drive a wedge in the Starks to get what he wants, which is Sansa and with her half the Seven Kingdoms. So it makes sense that he would use the existing animosity between Arya and Sansa.

I believe this will all pay off though. Sansa doesn't have the ability to warg or change her face, but her superpower is learning to play the game. She is going to turn all of this on Littlefinger.

I loved the TV version of that scene except for the part where we had to wait 5 years to see it.

Anyway the timeline in the books has had four years added to it. All characters are 3-4 years older with a couple of obvious exceptions like Missandei. This also goes for the adults.

Honestly it's not just what would be appropriate, GRRM admits he made a mistake about the ages of maturity over time.

I've done it twice in a row lately with Undertale and INSIDE. I doubt this year will make it a hat trick though.

Of course, the distinction is now completely meaningless. There are lots of small games put out by huge companies (Journey, Ori), and big games put out by independent ones (No Man's Sky, Hellblade).

Nice job B8splaining science to an actual scientist, bros. Yes, he cites sources. However, that does not make his claims accurate, because he is attempting to cherry-pick real data to justify a political point which is a big no-no in science. Additionally just because something has a paper attached doesn't make it good.

As an evolutionary biologist who's studied the issue, the idea of biological differences affecting things like work is a very disputed one, especially given the known socioeconomic factors in employment differences. You can find many, many scientists calling the entire memo bunk, including pretty much my entire institute. Personally I'm mainly frustrated at how it perpetuates a fundamental misunderstanding of how evolution works.

As good as Daredevil season 1, Jessica Jones, and the first half of Luke Cage were, I no longer feel any affinity for the Marvel TV stuff. It certainly is not conparable to the films.

Where they started standard and throwaway lightweight entertainment then got really interesting, the TV stuff has gone the opposite route.

Yep! It was announced a little while back and it sounds like it is happening for real.

I think if they treat each of the bigger arcs as a season, they could compress it down in a way that works. I'd certainly like a more digestible One Piece.

For my money though, the series I would actually like to see a western TV adaptation of is Fullmetal Alchemist. That one seems like it would be a natural fit in many different ways, and would actually maybe be good.

Great game! It has some severe problems with the pacing however. I do not think the story is bad, it's certainly leagues better than 4's silliness but it does have some major problems. The villain's plan is absurd even by series standards, and he's a pretty bad character in his own right. The first half of the game delicately gives you tiny breadcrumbs of story, then the second half just dumps a ton on you. The second half also has substantially worse gameplay than the first even though the story is more interesting. The story is structured interestingly, effectively into different strands for each major character (except Ocelot who is massively under-utilised). The problem here is the game spends a huge amount of time on one strand, then rushes through the remaining three or four.

With that said while it is flawed I like it a lot, it's one of the better Metal Gear Solid games. I would say it's third of he six main ones, behind 3 and 1.

I would need to think about how to word it, but there's this paranoia that makes me kind of disgusted. I made some post that didn't agree completely with some people and a whole discussion took place over whether I was some alt account of what, I presume, was some alt-right defender/troll.

Yes this is the one aspect I will somewhat agree with Wang on - they are people, and they can be changed. Better education, a more positive and inclusive message, and tougher (or any) laws on racial hatred are the way to acheive this.

That's where the agreement stops since I think it's time to recognise that Wang's rhetoric is by far the most dangerous I have seen in these topics. He is trying to justify and normalise Nazism, far-right extremism and white supremacy by putting a reasonable face on it. Saying that, oh, they weren't technically Nazis or that they should have the right to call for genocide and murder. That is extremely worrying and I urge him to look in the mirror, realise what he might enable, and stop.

And the same goes for Trump, the jammy coward.

It's absolutely a blind spot by design. And that design was for nothing good.

There are countries which are regularly assessed as more free societies than the US with free speech that still make inciting hatred illegal. This is a good thing and is to ensure liberty, not take it away.

And bear in mind: whether you set the line at incitement or just hate speech, what was being said was absolutely incitement. It blows my mind that something like this rally can happen in a developed country and be totally legal.

By the way I specified the American right because the "left" you mention isn't left wing or even especially liberal at all.

Wang, freedom of speech is not an absolute freedom and never has been. You do not have the freedom to violate the rights of another and you can do that through speech. It's why there are laws against libel, for instance. The same libel laws Trump wanted to broaden, funnily enough.

This also applies to racial hatred in many countries. You do not have the right to incite racial hatred, which is what this is. The US has a massive blind spot in this area. This being despite the fact that there are incitement laws in the US such as those against inciting riots.

I definitely wouldn't put this up for dialogue, but the VA in Kingdom Hearts is kind of amazing for games in the 00s. Disney managed to get an absolutely insane cast including Leonard Nimoy, Christopher Lee, Billy Zane, Mark Hamill, and many more, and that's not even getting into the people they got to reprise their Disney roles.

It was a pretty high bar for the time.
